Some clarification, Some confusion...
On Tuesday's class, we went through some additional problems about normalization which help me to understand NF1, NF2 and NF3 better. I am still not sure about NF4, so if Bud can give us another example of NF4, that will be great. I assume we will spend tons of time in the lab throughout the rest of the semester and I believe that the hand-on experience will help us to be more familiar with the concepts covered in class, most importantly, we can apply what we learned to some real world problems. Now some of old my confusions have been cleared and some new confusions have come to mind, waiting to be clarified. I guess that's what we called learning process. Good for us!

We will talk briefly about 4NF. You are in good shape if you are getting 3NF. The real point about 4NF is that we have not removed all redundancy at the end of 3NF. The in-class example was just meant to illustrate that point.
In 4NF, we have list-like attributes. In some cases, we will get repetition of values, even if the table is already in 3NF.
